UNEE Networks

As well as our formal workstreams we also have a number of informal networks across the UNEE partnership which help to strengthen collaboration (Technician network, Creative Industries & Heritage network and UNEE Business Schools). These networks meet regularly and provide useful forum for sharing best practice, mapping expertise, building mutual understanding and exploring future collaboration opportunities.

Technician Network

Through their practice Technicians are at the forefront of innovation. Through the UNEE technician network, we are strengthening collaboration and sharing expertise to map out a more connected, resource-efficient future for our technical communities.

By building mutual understanding and planning together, we can better align technical expertise with strategic funding opportunities and future research needs.

On 25th June 2025 the network held a landmark collaborative event which explored the breadth and depth of technical platforms across our institutions, sparking collaboration through themed breakout sessions, from STEM and Biomed to Arts and Education and launched conversations on shared infrastructure, skills development, and regional networks (including the new North East Imaging Network)

Creative Industries, Culture and Heritage

UNEE The five North East universities play a vital role in the region’s culture and creative industries. Through major cultural assets, specialist teaching and world-class research, we support talent, innovation and business growth. Working with cultural partners and

creative organisations, we widen access, strengthen skills pathways and help creative businesses thrive, connecting local creativity with regional and global opportunity.
